I am "The Old Bed Guy" who has seen and done it all in the bed business. Sixty years ago, a then virtually unknown mattress company called "Sealy" came up with a slogan that endured for forty years and was responsible for millions of lost sleep hours. So, "Sealy" started to soften their "Posturepedic" and made many new friends. Why? Because hard beds are neither very comfortable or good for your health.

Platform mattresses have to be as flexible as possible. The most flexible mattress is made of foam. a material that is almost always comfortable, and almost always a disappointment. The temptation to make it cheaper instead of better is virtually universal. You may be tempted to buy a foam mattress. Please don't, unless you can verify that it is 100% natural renewable tree latex. Synthetic foams can be used as padding in high quality innerspring mattresses, but will not stand up to the stresses when just placed on a platform. Even the best latex available at this time cannot provide the comfort or durability of a 1,000 coil purpose built innerspring as described above.

Simmons Beautyrest Classic Synclair Plush Pillow Top Mattress is the newest entry to the 2010 beautyrest classic line. It is the lowest price pillow top mattress in the line and when we were testing out the comfort level of this mattress we really were not expecting much, but I have to say we were quite surprised with the comfort level. If a mattress could have heart the Synclair would be the one. In our opinion the mattress is deserving of a higher position in the beautyrest line. It feels the way a solid pillow top mattress should, with nice give and bounce with ample amount of cushioning that should satisfy most customers that are in this price point for a mattress. Obviously going to the higher priced beautyrest models a customer will get a feeling of more luxury but that being said this mattress is probably pound for pound the best out in the market for the price.
